Food for Hungry Families
This letter is about supplying food to some hard-hit areas in East, Kentucky. Often referred to as Appalachia. Coal mining is almost non-existent and unemployment is the highest in the country.
I don’t have to explain to you about the food shortage crisis in America and around the world. Sadly, America suffers from 25% of our people dealing with food shortage issues. Even our older population of over 70 million people struggles as half this population survives monthly on a Social Security check. On the other end of the spectrum we have the working poor. People who have jobs, work hard but just cannot buy many groceries on a $12 an hour job. Yes, there is public assistance and food stamps and they help but even then, families start running out of food the last seven to ten days of the month. This means people become very scared, desperate and hungry.
Unfortunately, you and I can’t save all these people or even make a dent in the crisis. However, we can do something and that is “try” to help in some way.
The current cost of one truck load of food is $3500 and will feed about 200 families for a week to ten days. It’s not “the” answer but it will be a small effort that might save someone’s life. We never know.
Whatever amount you can give will be beautiful. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. I don’t want you or your family to do without anything so if you can’t give then pray that God will supply the funds to help buy food for these hard-hit areas where I hope we can help.
